The Second Son

Not the biggest fan of Historical Romance. But with writing like this I'm hooked! This is my first time reading any of Elise's works and I plan on reading more. I found out I started in the middle of the series, but I was not lost at anytime. That being said allows me to share with you that these books can be read out of order. But it may mess up some surprises in the others of the series. Just F.Y.I for you.
Elise Marion created some excellent characters. They are all so vivid, realistic and do not lack for their individuality. My favorites are the women warriors, Isabella and Serge. The woman warriors show exactly HOW capable a woman is no matter how they are raised or where they have some from. This band of woman warriors was able to teach someone that only knew riches and not tending to her own needs; how to defend and rely on herself. All in all they helped to make her a better, stronger person.
Serge has been through so much. Loss, injury and time has taken away some of life's meaning for him. Luckily fate has other ideas in mind for him because he gets to prove himself to others as well as himself that he IS a very worthy male.
Isabelle lost her husband and has been morning his passing for a long time. She is feeling the pressures of her responsibilities of being a princess, soon to be a queen. But is not ready for any of it because nothing is going the way it was sent up for her. She learns that she can take her own life into her hands and make her own decisions without guidance. She's a loveable character from the start, but becomes even more so as she shows ALL what she is capable of.
So much excitement jumps from these pages. With its perfect sensual touch and my new favorite Historical hottie Serge you will find it hard to put down :)

Elise Marion does it again...This is a MUST Read for everyone. =)

I was looking forward to reading the next book from Elise Marion's King of Cardenas Series. After reading "The Third Son" I fell in love with the world she created. I had never read Historical Romance before until I read "The Third Son." I don't know what I was thinking about avoiding the Genre...because now I can't get enough of it.
This book was about Serge and Isabelle. It picks up from where the last book left off. Serge was badly hurt in the last book and he was in coma. They never thought he would wake up...but he proved everyone wrong. The only person who really didn't give up him was Isabelle, his brother's wife (Lionus). Isabelle was his best friend and he always had feelings for her, but she was destined to be married to his older brother, Lionus. Isabelle never thought her world would thrown upside down though and she lost Lionus in the last book. In "The Second" Son, Isabelle is being forced to remarry so she can claim her throne in Barony. Who does everyone suggest she marry...but her best friend and her late husband's brother, Serge. Can she love him though like she did Lionus...the only way for you to find out is to read this book. =)
What I loved most about this book, was how strong a character Isabelle was. She was dealing with a lot during the beginning of the book and couldn't get over her husband Lionus. She had been mourning him for over a year and now she had to make a hard decision of re-marrying. How could she love someone again? Towards the end, she made a decision to become a stronger woman than anyone expected. She took it upon herself, to make Barony realize she would be amazing Queen to them and she wanted to take care of herself and not rely on someone else.
Elise Marion, brings two characters together after going through so much. She puts both the characters through tests that they must figure out how to get out. I don't know how many times, poor Serge had to put Isabelle in her place because of the dangers she put herself in. He just wanted to keep her safe and all Isabelle wanted to do was help.
I cried several times in this book because I felt so sorry for Serge in this book. The poor guy lost his brother, lost a year of his life and he loved a woman who really didn't know how to love him back. I also felt sorry for Isabelle because she had lost her husband, was being forced to re-marry and had to learn how to be fully a Queen. She broke Serge's heart so many times in this book too. I just wanted to jump in the book and tell her to WAKE up already.
This book is full of action packed love trials that will have you keep turning the page to read what comes next. You will cry, laugh, smile and get mad in certain parts of the book...but in the end, you will be amazed on the outcome like I was. I'm looking forward to the next book which will be about Esmeralda's cousin, Tatiana. ***You also get a glimpse on what happens to Tatiana in this book*** =)
So if you haven't read "The Third Son", yet you need to...so you can read "The Second Son".

Great Romance, Solid Story, and a Bit of Adventure

After finishing "The Third Son," I knew I just had to delve back into this world of romance, danger, and fascinating characters. I am glad to say that "The Second Son" doesn't disappoint, and delivers a solid story along with both familiar and new cast members who add even more depth.
Those of us who read The Third Son know what went down...
I found myself asking, "What's going to happen next?" The love story of Serge and Isabelle draws you in, and though both knew each other since childhood, they find that they still have more to learn about each other in order to truly unite and grow as a couple.
And I LOVED the lady knights of Barony (the third book is about them, and I will be reading that one as well). These women were truly a sisterhood, and they were total badasses.
Okay, if I don't end this review I'm going to start babbling and dropping spoilers, but suffice it to say that this was a GREAT read--and I don't even read romance or historical romance. You know the author has done her job when she can entertain both readers and non-readers of her genre.
I'm not sure if I'll venture further into romance genre, but I will do so if Elise Marion is penning it.
