Twelfth Planet: Book I of the Earth Chronicles (The Earth Chronicles), by Zecharia Sitchin

Over the years, startling evidence has been uncovered, challenging established notions of the origins of life on Earth—evidence that suggests the existence of an advanced group of extraterrestrials who once inhabited our world.

The first book of the revolutionary Earth Chronicles series offers indisputable documentary evidence of the existence of the mysterious planet Nibiru and tells why its astronauts came to Earth eons ago to fashion mankind in their image.

The product of more than thirty years of meticulous research, The 12th Planet treats as fact, not myth, the tales of Creation, the Deluge, the Tower of Babel, and the Nefilim who married the daughters of man. By weaving together the biblical narrative with Sumerian and Babylonian clay-tablet texts, it challenges the established notions of the origins of Earth and mankind, and offers a compelling alternative history and prehistory of both.

Amazon.com Review
Zecharia Sitchen's The 12th Planet is the starting point on a quest that spans six books and 20 years worth of ancient aliens, genetic manipulation, and scrutiny of linguistic minutiae. If we trust Sitchen's translation abilities, we must be prepared for the imminent return of an alien race who created us some 300,0x00 years ago. The 12th Planet is perhaps the best written of Sitchin's Earth Chronicles series; full of example after example of ancient Sumerian passages, astronomical observations, archaeological finds, and technological coincidences supporting his theories. The price we pay for all this evidence is a bit of a dry read at times, but the ideas Sitchin proposes are more than scintillating enough to make up for the overtly scholastic tone of his text. --Brian Patterson

Review
“Exciting...credible...A radical new theory..Provacative and compelling.” (Library Journal)

“One of the most important books on Earth’s roots ever written.” (East-West Magazine)

“Heavyweight scholarship...Now a recognized scholar has come forth with a theory that is the most astonishing of all.” (United Press International)

From the Inside Flap
Dear Reader,

The Earth Chronicles series is based on the premise that mythology is the depository of ancient recollections, that the Bible should be read literally as a historic-scientific document, and that ancient civilizations were the product of knowledge brought to Earth by the Anunnaki-- “Those who from Heaven to Earth came.”

Complementing each other and serving to bring the saga of gods and humans on Earth ever closer to our time, each book of the series looks at this awesome tale from a different perspective.

The 12th Planet, the first book of the series, brings to life the Sumerian civilization and presents millennia-old evidence of the existence of Nibiru, the home planet of the Anunnaki, and the landings of the Anunnaki on Earth every 3,600 years.

The Stairway to Heaven, the second book, incorporates ancient Egyptian evidence to show that the gateway between the mortal and the divine was a spaceport in the Sinai Peninsula, with the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx serving as beacons for the landings.

The Wars of Gods and Men, the third book, additionally embraces Canaanite, Hittite, and Hindu sources to include in these investigations the incidents of the Tower of Babel and the upheaval of Sodom and Gomorrah, concluding that nuclear weapons were used on Earth 4,000 years ago.

The Lost Realms, the fourth book, transports readers to the pre-Columbian civilizations and ancient empires of the Americas, revealing hitherto unrecognized golden links between ancient Near Eastern civilizations and the “cities of the gods” of the Olmecs, Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas.

When Time Began, the fifth book, explores ancient knowledge of Heaven and Earth and the interwoven cycles that gave rise to astronomy, the zodiac and astrology, and stone calendars such as Stonehenge, revealing the secret of New Ages past and future.

And The Cosmic Code, the sixth book in the series, explains how the secrets of humankind’s celestial teachers were encoded in the Bible and other sacred and hidden “books”--a cosmic code that links Earthlings to their cosmic roots. In the years since each book was published, new scientific discoveries have provided mounting corroboration of the series’ incredible and unorthodox science-based conclusions. This accumulation of discoveries and the origins of humankind and the solar system are further discussed in the companion books Genesis Revisited and Divine Encounters. I trust that modern science will continue to confirm ancient knowledge.

Zecharia Sitchin was born in Russia and grew up in Palestine, where he acquired a profound knowledge of modern and ancient Hebrew, other Semitic and European languages, the Old Testament, and the history and archaeology of the Near East. A graduate of the University of London with a degree in economic history, he worked as a journalist and editor for many years prior to undertaking his life’s work--The Earth Chronicles.

One of the few scholars able to read the clay tablets and interpret ancient Sumerian and Akkadian, Sitchin based The Earth Chronicles series on the texts and pictorial evidence recorded by the ancient civilizations of the Near East. His books have been widely translated, reprinted in paperback editions, converted to Braille for the blind, and featured on radio and television programs.

This is amazing. Best book I ever bought and I didn't ...
By Sean
Purchased this book three or so years ago. Read the first couple pages then just. Ever picked it up again. A month ago I was board and grabbed it off my shelf and started reading.. I had to read and re read pages. It is that interesting. I didn't care how long it took me to read it. For some reason I wanted to understand it. At this moment out of all the books I own this book is probably grabbed me more the anything. I am now trying to read book two but I think I'm going to retread this book a couple more times. This is amazing. Best book I ever bought and I didn't even know it. For the price you will get something priceless. A new understanding. Get a used copy. If you really like it as I do buy the hard copy after that. Buy it! now!

Food for Thought
By Darleen Michael Baker
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So much so, I ordered the rest of the series and am now halfway through "The Stairway to Heaven."
About the only flaw I found in "The 12th Planet," was Sitchin's abrupt beginning and dense prose. Reading it was a bit like listening to someone speak heavily accented English.
I'm not saying I agree 100% with what he says. I did, however, find it fascinating and the length and breadth of his research astounding.
My suggestion, dear reader, is to do as I did. Buy this book, read it and if you find it and the theories in it intriguing, buy and read the rest.
Ignore all the hoopla for and against you may read here. Read the book and make up your own mind. If nothing else, Sitchin will give you lots to think about for a long time to come.
Oh... and to answer one of the other "reviewers" questions about Niburu breaking up like a comet. Why would it? It's in orbit (according to Sitchin) like all the other planets and since when do comets "break up" anyway? The only time they do is if they run into something like Jupiter.
And Sitchin addresses the idea (far too briefly) of how life could possibly originate on a planet that spends most of its time so far away from the sun. Heat, not light, is what is necessary (he says) for the formation of life. He theorizes that Niburu generates its own heat. {shrug} As good a theory as any, I guess.

AUTHOR MAKES AN EXCELLENT CASE FOR HIS THEORY
By A Customer
My only problem with this book is that I don't know enough about the author. Who is he? What are his credentials? I suppose that this information might be in one of the hardcover books, or if i knew how to use the internet a bit better, I could find out somehow. But, insofar as the theme of the book, if he is truly accomplished enough in his field to interpret the ancient texts as he does, then he makes an outstanding case for humans to come from visitors from another planet...the 12th planet to be exact. Personally, I have quite a bit of knowledge about the Bible in my punkin' head but have a very broad mind when it comes to something like this. He does not actually refute the Bibles' message, and any fundamentalist who can at least take a few shots across the bow while learning about someone elses viewpoints could end up having a few questions about the Bible that he might not have entertained before. In the end, it is just a theory, but quite plausable and if a person with no knowledge of Bible history were to be presented with the author's theory or the story of the Bible, it is probable that the authors theory would be selected as the true story of creation.
