Good for design rules for specific filter types

This old book is pretty handy as a "just the facts ma'am" kind of guide. If you don't already know DSP, don't waste your time. You'll be totally lost and won't know what's going on. However, if you already know DSP and its associated theory and you need design rules in nice labeled steps with some examples and plenty of figures, this is a nice old book to have around. It's not trying to teach you anything, it's just trying to guide you through the design of specific types of filters. The only down side is that the programs that implement the various filters are all in Fortran. However, that is not really a fatal flaw. Every Fortran program is merely implementing an algorithm that has already been thoroughly explained. Unless you're bound and determined to completely lift programs from the book without understanding them AND you don't know Fortran, I'd say this old book is worth having in your library.

Don't let my review have you thinking there is no math in this book - there is plenty of it supporting the various filter designs. There are just no textbook explanations. For that I suggest Discrete-Time Signal Processing (2nd Edition) (Prentice-Hall Signal Processing Series). It is the definitive guide to DSP for beginners and professionals alike.

Practical and easy to understand

Digital Filter Design by Parks and Burrus is a practical book. Even though I didn't have any prior digital filter design experience, I was able to apply what I have learned to design a sample filter. As a prerequsite, this book requires a strong background in fourier analysis and understanding in transfer function. The sample code provided is extremely helpful. The book is well organized and easy to understand (provided you meet the prerequsite).

Adams presents a useful srvey of critical history.

In Critical Theory Since Plato, Hazard Adams surveys the history of criticsm from Plato through the post-structuralists. Considering the exhaustive nature of his topic, Adams does a good job of presenting a balanced view of the subject. The essays are arranged chronologically, allowing the reader to survey not only a particular author, but the development of critical theory as well. Each essay is prefaced by an introduction by Adams. These introductions are helpful to a newcomer to the subject. A student with no experience working with critical theory, though, may also find it helpful to purchase a critical theory handbook, such as those available by Eagleton. Still, there is no substitute for the original sources, and Adams has compiled a useful, lively textbook. See also Critical Theory Since 1965 by the same author.

Critical Critical Theory

The title says it all. Hazard Adams has compiled a collection of essays, dialogs, excerpts, etc. from Plato to Postmodernism. The selections made could be called the critical pieces of Critical Theory.
I purchased this book to accompany a college level course on Literary Theory, and it served excellently in that capacity. This book is not, however, self-explanatory. You should have some kind of background in theory before diving into this book. The introductions to the book, and to the beginning of each selection are generally enlightening, but still require some basic knowledge of the field. If you haven't had a formal introduction to theory, you may want to purchase a guide, or take a course on it before beginning this book.
However, if you have a good grasp of basic theory, this is an excellent book to help guide you deeper into the field.

Great textbook for a cheap price

The more recent editions are too expensive, pricing close to $200. I bought it for $10 for a theory/criticism class and I'm glad I did.

Born in Coventry, once the heart of the British motor industry, Brian Long is a professional writer with a passion for vintage and sporting machinery. A trained mechanical engineer and a long-term owner of both an SL and SLC, he has had a strong connection with Daimler-Benz products for over two decades. Great comprehensive guide to the R and C107

This book is an extremely comprehensive review of the 107 series, from its inception, details about the car, its changes over the years and successor. This book is not a buyers guide, so buy it if you're interested in the car, not looking to buy one. It also covers the rally cars etc.

I would also add that it is written from a worldwide point of view which is great - so many of these Mercedes books are very USA model centric - this book take a very comprehensive worldwide view. On the downside, there are some inaccuracies for the Australian spec models which were different to the USA ones (e.g. no CAT until 1986), but overall the book is very good.

The book also contains information about product numbers and specs for each year. These are spread throughout the narrative instead of being in table form for comparisons.

With his connections to Mercedes-Benz archives comes a new book revealing the birth of this model, a transfer of the W113 SL Pagaoda
from 1963 to 1989 and perhaps the longest running SL produced in Mercedes-Benz history 18 year, so you can expect a lot of small to big changes before the mold's got thin. today these are considered the next young classic from Mercedes-Benz.

Brain Long goes into much detail both mechanical and also add some history that happened during the periods of time so you don't get board. there is much to learn from his research. I will lease it to you to decide.included are different color codes and upholstery for each year with a bi line of information that grabs at you. This is a book that has to be read like drinking fine wine . you can not take it all in at once because their is so much to be learned till the last of the 560SL and classic SLC coupes.

If you are a fan of the SL Sports car in august of this year will debut another book on the W113 SL Pagaoda 230SL ,250SL ,and some touches on the 280LS. own them both and you can instantly tell you neighbors what and how and why about their car , that will stop them in their tracks. may Be even get them to buy
another before the prices zoom up again. with so many build looking for orginal ones is a challenge . they are out there and command the same no less price when new if keep in pristine condition .they are also an excellent car for your son or daughter going off to college. Build like a tank safety was the primary focus on this car so having one as an enjoyable summer car with the hard top removed.

This is a "must have" book for any owner or person interested in the R107 series Mercedes SL's. Book was in new condition and it's an enjoyable read, whether you are a long time Mercedes owner and familiar with the marque or a newbie getting interested.

About the Author
Tim Johnson’s first connection with Project began as a product support professional at Microsoft, starting with Project 3.0 for MS-DOS. Later, Tim worked on the Project user assistance team, where he brought his firsthand knowledge of customers’ issues to new learning solutions for Project. Tim remains involved in the computer industry and continues to look for ways to help customers better understand and use their computer applications. Tim is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).

Carl Chatfield is a content strategist and technical writer in the software development industry. Carl teaches in the Professional Technical Writing program at the University of Washington. He is a graduate of the masters program in Technical Communication at the University of Washington and is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute.

About the Author

David W. Moore is as a Professor of Education at Arizona State University where he teaches secondary school teacher education courses and advises doctoral students. His vita shows a thirty year publication record that balances research reports, professional articles, and books. He is active in many professional organizations and consulting.

Sharon Arthur Moore retired after serving four decades as an educator including classroom teacher, Title I teacher, university faculty member, literacy coach, and literacy director in two school districts. She currently provides staff development for school districts and is writing fiction. Her vita includes research reports, professional articles, and books.

Patricia Cunningham grew up in Rhode Island. For seven years, after graduating from The University of Rhode Island, she taught a variety of elementary grades in Florida and Indiana. She received her Ph. D in Reading Education from the University Of Georgia in 1974. After teaching at Ohio University and serving as Director of Reading for Alamance Co., North Carolina Schools, she came to Wake Forest University to direct the Elementary Education program in 1978. Pat’s particular interest has always been in finding alternative ways to teach children for whom learning to read is difficult. Reading and Writing in Elementary Classrooms, first published in 1978, is currently in its fourth edition. In 1991, She published Phonics they Use: Words for Reading and Writing, which is currently available in its fourth edition. Along with Richard Allington, She published Classrooms that Work and Schools that Work. Along with Dorothy Hall, she developed the Four Blocks Literacy framework, which is currently used as the balanced literacy framework in thousand of classrooms throughout the country. She and Dorothy Hall are co-directors of the Four Blocks Literacy Center, which is housed at Wake Forest University.

James W. Cunningham has over 100 professional publications in reading and writing education such as college textbooks, book chapters including major research reviews, and original research published in major research journals. He has been a professor of education at UNC-Chapel Hill and an elementary classroom teacher.

It's not too bad. I think that he was in great condition when I got it and that the actual content of the book is not that dry either. It's not too bad of a read and isn't super challenging.

Nathan Hanson is still working through the recent changes to his life. When he walks away from Diana, his long-time girlfriend, he comes out to his father, Owen. There, he meets Lexington Paistro, who is handsome, sexy, and into Nathan. He’s also a vampire. Having learned of paranormals when his father bonded with one, it’s not the biting that Nathan fears. It’s the possessiveness. He’s still trying to extricate himself from a woman who thinks she owns him. Will Lexington behave the same way?

Blue Collar Beloved

In this third story of the LOVING NIP series some serious issues are brought up. Usually laughed off the Crazy Ex in this book is a woman whose domineering ways kept her boyfriend in a five-year relationship and in denial. Finally Nathan gains the strength and confidence to not only leave her, but to Come out! Luckily he had the strong support of his father, who coincidently is now in a bonded relationship with a male Vampire.

Unfortunately after such a lengthy relationship with a shapely brunette woman, his coworkers kept pestering him, because she showed she still wanted him, why did he leave her? Why wouldn't he take her back? Obviously she was still "crazy" about him. Finally regrettably he told them the reason why. Now Nathan was a big buff guy. He had a very physical job at a lumber company. He was far from who "real" men would consider susceptible to the "gay thing". He had been one of the guys for years at least on the job. His girlfriend rarely allowed him to go out with the boys.

Nathan was feeling confused, lonely, ostracized, and horny. Fortunately he had his father the make sure he didn't hide out in his apartment. Owen introduced his son to several of the Human Beloveds and Donors, as well as a few of the Vampires. They made sure he at least socialised. In particular with his new Human friends Seth (Beloved of the coven leader, Adalric), Korbin (Beloved of the second in command, Daystrum), and Peter a very flamboyant Donor who'd lived at the coven for many years.

Using liquid courage once Nathan finally was persuaded to actually go to a gay club, then on the dance floor with the straight college senior, Brock. He had met up with his former roommates who were Beloved and bonded mates of shifters. With Brock he felt safe - they would look out for each other. What Nathan didn't know was his vampiric Beloved was on the lookout for him. He'd been scented and the sweet blood pull was driving the visiting Enforcer Vampire crazy. The tall blond Vamp blew all of Nathan's bells & whistles and he left Brock's protection to do an unbeknownst to him, a mating dance with Lexington.

But the path to true love isn't always easy. Lexington is headquartered out of town. He travels a lot. His Beloved could be in danger if he traveled with him. Lexington was on a mission he couldn't just abandon. Then there were all of Nathan's problems with his Ex. They didn't just disappear because he found a new "Boo". He was plagued with uncertainty. He'd heard of how possessive Vampires were. Would he be putting himself back into the type of relationship he'd finally escaped from?

I enjoyed this story and eagerly await the fourth installment in this series.

Nathan Hanson is well aware of vampires, shifters, and all the rest of the things that go bump in the night since his father bonded with one of them. The lumberyard driver recently broke free from a controlling girlfriend and embraced his true sexuality. Not everyone at work is happy with Nathan’s choices but they’ve been a lot quieter than his ex, Diana, who’s doing her best to make his single life miserable.

The North American Vampire Council is very concerned after several vampires went missing and reappeared outside their covens drained of blood. Enforcer Lexington Paistro is in town to discuss the matter with coven leader Adalric Bachmeier. Their meeting at a popular nightclub brings unexpected results when Lexington scents something divine in the air. Cornering Nathan and a sip of his blood proves that the enforcer has found his beloved, his mate.

For Nathan’s part he’d love to explore a relationship with Lexington as long as the vampire can refrain from being possessive like his ex. It’s a tall order for the enforcer, but Lexington will do whatever he can to make Nathan happy. Now, if only they can get Diana to take a hint.

An Unforgettable Bite skillfully blends an enticing romance with a chilling suspense. Nathan is comfortable with the paranormal world which is a relief to the enforcer. He is however timid about exploring his new lifestyle. It’s up to Lexington to introduce his beloved to their carnal love and he does so tenderly when necessary, hot and forceful when appropriate. As for the ex…yikes. Book three in the A Loving Nip series gives readers a thrilling treat with An Unforgettable Bite. You won’t be disappointed.

Good, quick read.

Nathan wasn’t comfortable being gay, even if he couldn’t deny that he was. He worked in a lumberyard, he’d had a girlfriend for five years, and was still to pop his gay cherry. But since he’d found out that vampires existed, thanks to his father of all people, Nathan had made a few changes in his life and going to a gay bar seemed like the next best step. But first he had to get past his ex, who apparently keeps trying to bump into him. Fortunately he has friends like Peter, who is absolutely adorable.

"Obviously I’m the one polishing this man’s sexy nob."

Lex is tall, blond and drool-worthy. He also works for the Vampire Council. He’d watched his friends find their beloved, and despaired of ever finding his own. But when he catches sight of Nathan at the gay bar, he started to think his luck had changed. After spending years trying to respond to his female ex, to say that Lex was overwhelming to Nathan was an understatement.

"This is what attraction is supposed to feel like…overwhelming and powerful. Being the big spoon is damned overrated."

Unfortunately of course Lex had a job to do, and he hadn’t told Nathan that he was a vampire. Nathan had already spent five years being controlled by his girlfriend and when he found out what Lex was he did freak out a bit. He knew vampires were controlling and possessive and he didn’t know if he could cope living like that.

The secondary characters in this book were great. I felt so sorry for Brock and Peter was too adorable for words. I caught a glimpse of Vince and his mate, and Sebastian and his, from previous books – don’t worry this book is fine as a standalone, but because I had read the other books it was nice to see the couples. Diana, the ex, was a problem of course – a complete psychopath who wouldn’t take no for an answer. It was hard to feel anything for her at all as she gives females a bad name.

The story ended a little abruptly – I would have liked to have read more and the underlying theme of someone capturing vampires and turning them into almost zombies is something I sure hope Ms. Richards addresses in future books. Overall this was a good, quick read. The sex was hot, the attraction instant and the future looked bright for Nathan and Lex. Hopefully I will catch more of them later.

About the Author
Father Tony Mancuso is a priest of the Diocese of San Jose, Calfironia. He has a doctorate in education and is currently treaching and serving as chaplain at St. Francis High School in Mountain View. He also serves as adjunct faculty in the Graduate School of Education and Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. Fr. Mancuso has served in many parishes, sometimes as a parochial vicar and sometimes as pastor. He has also served as a chaplain in some of the area's other Chatholic high schools. Wherever he has gone, he has worked with the parishioners or school teams to develop environmental designs tht are supportive of the liturgical action and engageing to the sense.

Caroline Thomas has been involved in liturgy planning since the early 1970s and received an MA in Pastoral Liturgy from the University of Santa Clara in 1992. She has worked in parishes as the director of liturgy for mor than 14 years and continues to be passionate about the potential of the liturgy to transform its participants.

great book for those involved in Parish liturgy planning, decorating, celebrating. Filled with great ideas and suggestions - a must read.

Great tool whether experienced or novice

Excellent planning tool for teams to read. It gives many points to ponder. This is not a picture book of ideas rather it is a way to look at planning for your specific Church based on great questions to answer. Helpful planning sheets are included at the end of the book. I have been designing seasonal Church decorations for over 20 years. Many tools included are ones I use but many more were enlightening.
